Leah Ryan - Dog Judge

Leah

"My Interest in breeding and the exhibition of pure-bred dogs spans over three decades, beginning in New Zealand with Shetland Sheepdogs - a breed that most suited my facilities at that time. My foundation stock came from the famous Twoseas Kennels and I continued with those bloodlines until I left New Zealand to travel the world.

Many years later, whilst judging the Working Group in 1999, I awarded Reserve Challenge Bitch to a very typey seven-month-old Shetland Sheepdog! Shortly thereafter, we heard a rumour that she "just might become available"! And so, this is how we came to acquire the one and only... Annie!

With her never-ending energy and effervescent personality, she keeps everyone, especially the Collies, in line. She has had a fun time in the show ring over the past 2-3 years, being awarded many notable wins to her credit including Best In and Runner Up In Groups.
In the not-too-distant future, Annie plans to test her ability in the production stakes...

Having gained her final points she has now become known as...

Ch. Shelloy Cezanne (Annie)     DOB 14/12/98
Sire: Grand Ch. Daydream Darien       Dam: Shelloy Monet

For more than twenty years, Barry & I have travelled the world extensively, viewing Speciality and All Breed shows. We were the first people to import Rough Collies into Australia from the United States of America for the purpose of breeding and exhibition, and also the first to produce Rough Collies from frozen semen in Australia.

We have bred champions in both Conformation and Obedience who have excelled at Speciality and All Breed shows, including Group and Challenge Winners at Royal shows (Australia's Westminster/Crufts).

I have:

  • written and published a thesis on Coat Colour Inheritance for the Collie Breed.
  • served on numerous Committees for the Collie Club of New South Wales
  • performed the duties required as Honorary Club Secretary
  • served as Secretary of the sub-committee set up to devise the Illustrated Breed Standard
  • Wrote the history for the Illustrated Breed Standard publication
  • Prepared and presented the lecture for Rough Collies at the Judges Training Scheme 2002

I obtained my first judge's license in 1992. Currently, I am licensed to judge the Working (Herding), Gundog (Sporting), and the Utility (Working) Groups - approximately ninety breeds in all. At present, I am an aspirant in the Hound Group. I have judged in most states of Australia, in New Zealand and in the United States of America.

The pinnacle of my judging career came when judging in the United States of America at the Emerald Classic Cluster 50th Anniversary show, held in Eugene Oregon. I judged breeds from the Herding and Sporting Groups, including an entry of eighty plus German Shepherd Dogs. My final selection was Ch. Winwalker's Yes Virginia. After selecting this bitch, she went on to win a Group two placement. The judge who affirmed my decision was the highly-respected and renowned German Shepherd Specialist, Michelle Billings from Florida."
